Have you ever looked at your fast food and thought: “This looks nothing like the pizza in the commercial”? Well, worry no more. Domino’s, ever the tech-forward pizza brand, is trying to fix that issue with AI and an overhead smart scanner affectionately dubbed the DOM Pizza Checker.
How does it work? DOM scans pizzas on the cut bench before they’re sliced, boxed, and delivered, looking for consistency and even pepperoni distribution. DOM’s algorithm was trained on a massive data set of A+ pizzas, Domino’s said.
- DOM is now operational in all Australia and New Zealand Domino’s stores and will inspect every single pizza that goes out the door.
Domino’s has also been working on delivering pizzas with robots. Because even if DOM vets your pizza on its way out the door, a delivery driver taking that hard left turn or speed bump too fast could undo it all.
Bottom line: With the debut of the first pizza tracker a couple years ago, Domino’s has established a track record of embracing flashy, high-tech concepts. Call it DOMination.
