How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t work in tech?
I founded and am the CEO of Strivr, a company that provides VR-based training solutions to Fortune 1000 companies. In other words, we partner with large enterprises to design and deploy immersive training programs for thousands of employees to help them practice and learn new important job-related skills in a safe and risk-free environment.
What’s your favorite emerging tech project you’ve worked on?
While I was a graduate student and assistant football coach at Stanford, I approached David Shaw (the head coach) and pitched him on my thesis idea that I felt could also help the team: using VR to train football players. He was very receptive to the idea, and I spent the next two years on that project. It was so successful that David sat me down and told me, “You’re a great coach, but if I were you, I’d get out of here and go start a company.” This project led to the founding of Strivr, and since then, VR training has been in the hands of more than one million employees.
What’s the best piece of tech-related media you’ve read/watched/listened to?
Honestly, I don’t really spend a ton of time immersing myself in tech media, outside of what I do day-to-day at Strivr. But if I ever do, I usually listen to the How I Built This podcast. I love hearing stories about other entrepreneurs and how they got to where they are today. I find them super inspirational, and I also tend to pick up some tips on what to do—or not to do—at Strivr.
