Sightful
The maker of a new laptop device is trying to expand the size of your computer screen by ditching the monitor display altogether.
The startup Sightful, which announced itself last week with $61 million in initial funding, is rolling out what it bills as the world’s first augmented reality (AR) laptop of its kind.
The $2,000 Spacetop device is essentially the lower half of a laptop with a mounted webcam and a pair of glasses attached by a cord through which users can see a 100-inch projection of a workspace screen.
Sightful’s co-founders said the goal is to establish a natural daily use case for AR technology at a time when data shows that people generally don’t yet see a need for such extra dimensionality at work. The setup is designed to expand the workspace display with relatively compact hardware for the segments of the workforce that have remained largely remote since the onset of the pandemic.
“The reason people are not using AR and VR is because there’s no reason for them to use it,” Sightful CEO and co-founder Tamir Berliner said.

We’ve all set out on an overly optimistic road trip. Freedom and adventure, what could be better? But once the initial thrill of hittin’ the road wears off, you’re stuck spending endless hours staring out the window, listening to someone else’s music, and watching the miles slowly tick by.
But road trips don’t have to be this way.
For this Memorial Day weekend, AT&T has changed the way you road trip: They’re letting you try AT&T In-car Wi-Fi for free. That’s right—they’ll turn your vehicle into an entertainment machine for FREE, so you can quit asking, “Are we there yet?”
Whether you’re traveling to the lake or making a cross-country journey, AT&T will help you stay connected and stream videos, music, and games no matter where the road takes you.
Become the star of the road trip with In-car Wi-Fi.

Big Tech fell out of the congressional spotlight last week as artificial intelligence took center stage.
OpenAI and IBM sent representatives to testify before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee about how to regulate AI development, and down the street at the White House, the Biden administration laid out its plan for job creation in fields like semiconductor manufacturing and clean energy. The Federal Trade Commission, meantime, examined data sharing.
Here’s our dispatch from last week’s intersection of tech and politics.

CISOs enjoyed a brief respite from the sky falling in the immediate post-pandemic era, but the sense of danger from ever-increasing cyberattacks has returned.
That’s according to a new Proofpoint survey of 1,600+ CISOs across 16 different countries, which found that security threats are as bad as ever.
Proofpoint Global Resident CISO Lucia Milică Stacy said in the introduction to this year’s survey that last year, “with most pandemic disruption overcome, CISOs for a brief time appeared to feel a sense of calm, composure, and confidence in their security posture.”
“Astoundingly, that feeling has already vanished, replaced by elevated concern,” Stacy said.
